Why We Built the Flyweight Jacket With Simms

Staying dry is crucial to maximizing your casting time, so we teamed up with Simms to co-design our Flyweight Technical Shell Jacket with top-tier waterproofing. Thanks to GORE-TEX technology, this jacket sheds water to help you keep your line in the water even in a downpour. We love this particular version of GORE-TEX fabric—the Paclite Plus layup—which allows the jacket to pack down into its hand pocket to about the size of your favorite one-liter water bottle.

Very loud

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I love this jacket. Seems very well made and stylish. I really wanted to love it more, but it is SO LOUD. I can't imagine wearing this for fishing. I can't even imagine wearing it to hike or in the rain. IT IS SO LOUD. great color. I am returning.

For the price, this jacket feels cheap like frog togs or something. It?s super loud and no happy with it. I will return.

Really wanted to love it and keep

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I was so excited to receive this jacket -- love the color and how it looks, but there were some details that were missing that would have made it better for those who are looking to wear it on a daily basis. the opening at the sleeves was much too wide and therefore the cuff didn't stay at my wrist. Some rain jackets have the velcro to tighten and loosen, which would work well -- not sure if it was designed to meet a fishing need. Also, like another reviewer had pointed out ,the material is pretty loud -- not sure if that is how goretex is in general, but I would say, not meant for being stealthy. On that note, this is men's jacket, and I am a woman, so that could play a part in the fitting, but I was hoping that it would be more unisex since there is a woman modeling the jacket in the description.

Simms/ Gore-Tex/ Backcountry Quality

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This jacket is amazing! It meets all four criteria for a great jacket. It provides bombproof protection from the rain, wind, it's very breathable, and it's highly packable! I use this jacket as my go-to jacket for fly-fishing and just leave it in one of my vest pockets year-round because it packs up so well. I'm surprised how often I use this jacket even when it isn't raining because it's totally windproof and provides some warmth. When you are out wading in the river and the sun dips down behind the mountain and it starts to cool off, this is a perfect jacket to toss on because it protects from the wind and provides just enough extra warmth to keep you out on the river when the hatches really start! The jacket is Gore-Tex quality, so you know that it will stay dry. It's so lightweight that I don't even notice carrying it around. The jacket is highly breathable so if you are hiking in it, you don't sweat inside while wearing it. It's so well-rounded and versatile that I'm going to get another one just to leave in my car because it stows away so small. As far as fit, I'd say it's just a nice relaxed fit. The sleeves aren't too tight and they aren't too baggy. I'd say the fit is consistent with all of Simms other clothing and jackets. The chest pocket is a nice touch and it fits a fly box or your phone. The bottom line is that it's Simms/Gore-Tex/Backcountry quality with a solid YKK zipper at a great price. Great job Backcountry/Simms!

Lovely Jacket for Water stuff

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion and I have some things to share based on my experience with this gear. I am training to do a long canoe trip and wanted a durable piece of water proof gear to play in while I got ready. This Simms jacket is not only a beautiful color but it’s light, fits true to size and feels great while wearing in the backcountry. I practice some canoe lining in the shallows and managed to get covered in water but stayed really dry. Besides my neck line from my hair. This jacket really does repel water. The wrists are cinched but aren’t that uncomfortable material like you would find in other jackets such as frogg toggs. It has zipper pockets and a nice bucket hood. I felt the jacket was rather breathable as well and lightweight. I look forward to brining this jacket along with the matching Simms waders for some fishing trips in my near future.

A Great Shell for Spring Weather

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. This jacket is essential for when the weather is unpredictable, especially during spring where in the same day it's sunny, overcast, windy, rain and hail. I love the Gore-Tex material b/c I know what's under the jacket will stay dry when it gets wet. It's pretty packable, so easy to bring in a small backpack, definitely came in handy on bike rides and hikes when it suddenly got rainy, windy, and/or chilly.

My new go to all around technical shell!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion and I'm very excited to share with you my experience with this amazing shell... Color - Yes, I know what you're thinking, the trout is going to see you miles away with this color...so the first thing I did is to wear this shell to Cheesman Canyon in South Platte River of Colorado which is known to the fly fishing world as one of the toughest tailwater/river to fool a trout (arguably). I manage to fool 6 trout and landed 4 in the net within 2 hours of fishing. In the end, it's all about fly presentation/technique and I did get a few compliments from my friends on the bold color of this shell. Materials - The shell is made with 2L Gore-Tex Paclite Plus and while hiking about 2 miles deep in the Cheesman Canyon with this technical shell on an early morning, mildly snowing/raining (May 2021), I noticed it's breathability and ability to bead off water without any problems. I hiked/fished a total of 6 miles without taking off the shell due to overheating. Feeling clammy is the worst feeling especially when a shell cost triple huneds, na' mean? Fitment - I am 5'6" athletic build, 135 lbs and I have the small size in Mens. It fits true to the size and while I was hiking/fishing at Cheesman Canyon, I was wearing a Patagonia R1 hoody underneath this shell. Verdict - I absolutely love this shell and will always store this in my truck for any type of activities other than hiking/fishing. This shell packs on it's own front mesh pocket effortlessly. I even wore this during a 45 mile bike ride loop from Denver to Superior/Boulder. It protects you from wind, snow, and rain! This is my new go to, do everything technical shell!

Awesome Jacket

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I have taken this rain shell fishing and hiking in some heavy rain. Performed great. It kept the water out and breathed really well. Definitely high quality. It rolls up small and lives in my pack now.
